MXene: A Novel Two-Dimensional Membrane Material for Molecular Separation

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

As a new addition to two-dimensional (2D) family, transition-metal carbides, carbonitrides, and nitrides (MXene) nanosheets with atomic thickness, micrometer lateral size, and abundant groups have been demonstrated as a rising star for assembling membranes for molecular separation. This chapter presents the latest progresses in the use of MXene nanosheets for membrane separation applications, such as gas separation, organic solvent treatment, oil-water separation, and desalination. Besides, various methods for synthesis of MXene nanosheets and MXene-based membranes are briefly summarized. Finally, possible future challenging issues about MXene-based membrane for molecular separation are also discussed.
