Abstract

With the development of lithium ion batteries with higher energy density, their safety has become more important. As a result, polymer electrolytes are becoming an indispensable choice. In this chapter, we mainly introduced the two kinds of polymer electrolytes, i.e. solid polymer electrolytes and gel polymer electrolytes, and their main modification and performance. In the case of the latter, it presents not only good electrochemical performance but also superior safety for the as-assembled lithium ion batteries over the ceramic-coated separators. It is becoming the choice for power lithium ion batteries used for electric vehicles. Of course, some further challenges are also pointed out.
