Preparation of CdO nanowires from CdO2 nanoparticles

Abstract

A two-step method was developed for the preparation of CdO nanowires from CdO2 nanoparticles, that is, first, Cd(OH)2 nanowires were synthesized via solvothermal treatment of CdO2 nanoparticles in the mixed solution of deionized water and toluene at 180 ºC for 24 h; second, CdO nanowires were obtained by thermolysis of the Cd(OH)2 nanowires in air at 300 ºC for 3 h. The obtained products were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy.
