Vibration test and finite element analysis of a timber construction with curbwall

Abstract

For inheritance and development of Chinese culture, the historical cultural districts have been reconstructed in most parts of China. As the same time, existing timber constructions have been repaired and lots of antique timber constructions have been built. In this paper, a timber construction with curbwall was made a vibration test. Two models of timber constructions based on the test actual construction were simulated by the finite element software. This paper made a comparative analysis of curbwall’s impact on the dynamic performance and structural stiffness. Finite element analysis result was compared with vibration test result. It turned out that curbwall has a significant impact on the dynamic performance of timber constructions. It can improve the lateral stiffness of the structure. Finally, connecting measures and ring beams are suggested to strengthen the curbwall and the structure. It provides the reference and basis for practical design.
