Effect of sintering temperature on electrochemical properties of TiNi hydrogen storage alloy

摘要

The structure and electrochemical properties of TiNi hydrogen storage alloys, prepared by solid phase sintering at 750, 850 or 950°C, were investigated by using X-ray diffraction(XRD), charge and discharge testing, linear polarization, and potential-step measurement. The results showed that the maximum discharge capacity increased from 179.0 to 188.1 and 211.3 mAh·g-1 with the increase of the sintering temperature. Although the increase of the sintering temperature lead to a decrease in exchange current density, hydrogen diffusion within the bulk alloy was enhanced dramatically, and resulted in a significant improvement in high rate dischargeability (HRD). The hydrogen diffusion coefficient D of TiNi hydrogen storage alloy increased from 2.49×10-10 cm2·s-1 (sintered at 750°C) to 2.61×10-10 cm2·s-1 (sintered at 850°C) and 3.48×10-10 cm2·s-1 (sintered at 950°C), respectively. The discharge capacity of TiNi hydrogen storage alloy, sintered at 950°C, was 84.6 mAh·g-1 even at 1500 mA·g-1.
