Abstract
The influence of the amount of alumina binder on the catalytic properties of PtSnNa/AlSBA-15 catalysts for propane dehydrogenation was investigated. BET surface area measurement, catalyst particle mechanical strength, solid-state 27Al MAS NMR spectroscopy, hydrogen chemisorption, NH 3-TPD and XPS were used to characterize the catalysts. It can be observed that the mechanical strength of the agglomerated catalyst was higher than that of the nonagglomerated one. Among these catalysts studied, the PtSnNa/AlSBA-15 catalyst bound with 20 wt.% alumina binder showed the best catalytic performance in terms of propane conversion and selectivity to propene. The high catalytic performance may be due to relatively good Pt metal dispersion and/or the strong interaction between Pt and Sn, which were attributed to an increase in Al(IV) and Al(VI) species for the agglomerated catalyst.
