Abstract

In this work, the polystyrene was modified to sulfonated polystyrene ionomer (SPS) and was emulsified to a stable polymer waterborne emulsion by using the technology of phase inversion. The internal of SPS particles in SPS waterborne emulsion was used as reaction area for the monomer butyl acrylate (BA) and the PBA/SPS hybrid emulsion has been prepared by this new technology. The factors that affect on the conversion of monomer and the diameter distribution of hybrid emulsion were studied. The morphology and the size of the hybrid emulsion particles were analysed by FT-IR and TEM.
