Abstract
Pneumocandin B0 is a precusor of antifungal echinocandins caspofungin. The echinocandins are a class of antifungal lipopeptides targeting fungi via noncompetitive inhibition of the β-1,3-D-glucan synthase enzyme complex, leading to glucan polymer depletion in the fungal cell wall and resulting in osmotic instability and fungal cell lysis. Pneumocandin B0 is produced by fungi Glarea lozoyensis. This article reviews the recent advance on pneumocandin B0, including the structure, biosynthesis, strain breeding and fermentation production.
