Research progress of echinocandins pneumocandin production by Glarea lozoyensis

Pneumocandin B₀ is a precusor of antifungal echinocandins caspofungin. The echinocandins are a class of antifungal lipopeptides targeting fungi via noncompetitive inhibition of the β-1,3-D-glucan synthase enzyme complex, leading to glucan polymer depletion in the fungal cell wall and resulting in osmotic instability and fungal cell lysis. Pneumocandin B₀ is produced by fungi Glarea lozoyensis. This article reviews the recent advance on pneumocandin B₀, including the structure, biosynthesis, strain breeding and fermentation production.
